Obituary/Newspaper article: "Better off Dead", girl ends her life--Pretty Alice Morrow so writes mother. Body in Park. Despondent and declaring that she was tired of life, pretty Alice Morrow, 21 years old, of 433 Harvard Street, northwest, ended her life late yesterday in Rock Creek park by swallowing the contents of two half-ounce bottles of carbolic acid. The young woman had been dead several hours when Dorothy Smith and Mary Stewart, both of the Ontario Apartment discovered her body in the park woods. Her body was taken to the District morgue. In a small leather handbag found near the girl was a letter addressed to her mother stating that she was disheartened and was going to commit suicide. The letter was dated March 19. A powder puff, a small looking glass and $5.25 was also found in the handbag. The letter in part read: "Dear Mother--when you get this I will be dead. I hope you won't grieve, as I know I will be better off." The letter also requested that her body be buried beside that of her father. Police stated last night that the young woman had not been living with her mother on Harvard street for the past few days and had an apartment on Kenyon street. Up to an early hour this morning, however, they were unable to locate it.
