Glenn A. Bignall, 78, of 626 Oak Street, Manistique, Michigan died December 16, 2010 at the Lawyers Glen Assisted Living in Mint Hill, North Carolina.

He was born April 20, 1932 in Marquette, Michigan the son of Allen and Beryl (Comstock) Bignall and graduated from high school in Marquette. He continued his education at Northern Michigan University and later received his master's degree from the University of Michigan.

During the Korean Conflict, Glenn served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1956.

On June 28, 1952 he married the former Sarah Hamel in Marquette. In 1959 they moved to Manistique from Marquette and raised their family there.

Glenn was employed as a teacher at the Manistique High School from 1959 until his retirement in 1994.

He was a member of the Church of the Redeemer-Presbyterian of Manistique, the area teacher's organizations and the Manistique Elks Lodge #632. He is a past chairman of the Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital board of directors. Interested in school athletics, he served as the Manistique High School football trainer and as an intramural basketball coach for many years. He also enjoyed softball and fishing.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Sarah H. Bignall of Manistique; daughters, Karyn (Barry) Fay of Houghton, MI, Lynne (John) Faith of Mercer Island, WA, Kristen (Michael) Laton of Albemarle, NC and Susan (Ron) Owensby of Belmont, NC; his son, Daniel (Wendy) Bignall of Midland, NC; 13 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother, A. Rex Bignall of Palm Springs, CA; and his sister, Joan Nelson of Oxnard, CA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Alton Bignall; and his sisters, Carol Thornton and Leota Bignall.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the Church of the Redeemer-Presbyterian in Manistique. Visitation will follow the service in the church Westminster Room. Burial will be held in the Lakeview Cemetery at Manistique.

A celebration of Glenn's life will also follow beginning at 6:00 pm, on Tuesday, at the Manistique Elks Club.
