Virginia Smith Fulkerson, 90, of Gulfport, died Sunday, December 19, 2010 at Ocean Springs Nursing Center. Virginia was born in Chugwater, WY, raised in Denver, Co; reared her children in San Antonio, TX and has resided in Gulfport for 31 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer "Bud" J. Fulkerson; her parents, Elizabeth and Peter Smith; two sisters, Kathryn Miller and Eileen Bolin; son, William J. Fulkerson; and grandson, Scot L. J. Modenbach.
She is survived by her sister, Marguerite Schmitz of Marietta, GA; her children, Patricia Modenbach (LeRoy) of Gulfport, MS; James Fulkerson (Jeanne) of Rondondo Beach, CA , and Gerald Fulkerson (Linda) of Spring, TX; eight grandchildren, Neil Modenbach (Jayme) of Houston, Tx, Christine Acosta (Jolyon) of Tampa, FL, Mark Modenbach (Lauryn) of Baton Rouge, LA, Eric Fulkerson of Eatonton, GA, Michael Fulkerson (Lauren) of Manhattan Beach, CA, April Martin of Magnolia, Tx, Jarod Fulkerson (Emily) of Houston, TX, and Amy Bertrand of Spring, TX; and her fourteen great-grandchildren, Claire and Joseph Acosta of Tampa, FL, Andrew and Luke Modenbach of Baton Rouge, LA; Ethan, William and Andrew Fulkerson of Eatonton, GA, Jack, Luke, and Sean Fulkerson of Manhattan Beach, CA, Gavin and Gage Fulkerson of Houston, TX, and Chance and Chandler Bertrand of Spring, TX.
She was a founding member of Birthright Inc. of the diocese of San Antonio, TX, receiving the papal Honor "Pro Ecclesia at Pontifice Medal and Diploma" in 1973 for her dedication.
Memorial and burial services will be held at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO.
