Wiley D. Sasser was the son of A. Lafayette Sasser and Elizabeth "Bettie" (Holt) Sasser. His father was engaged in farming and was a wealthy, prominent citizen of Goldsboro, North Carolina and served as a Confederate soldier. W. D. was one of nine children of whom six lived to adulthood. His parents married in 1856. They were buried in the old homestead graveyard near Fork township. Mr. Sasser died in 1908 and Mrs. Sasser died in 1918.
Wiley D. Sasser was ordained as a reverend in December 1897. While residing in Corpus Christi he was the proprietor of the Big Chief Tourist Camp.
