Ref: The burial location for George Brown is on his farm located off State Hwy. No 244, about 1 1/3 mile east and ½ mile south of Richland, IN. This is where he died on 21 Sep. 1825. George Brown's burial location was in
terrible condition and the grave located in a pasture was overrun by stock.
During the month of Sep. 1961, the headstone (one placed by the Quartermaster General, U.S. Army, other by a D.A.R. Chapter) was reset, grave filled in and grave site enclosed by a fence. On the wall, in the main
entrance of the Rush Co., IN Courthouse is a plaque bearing the name of George Brown, together with 23 other veterans of the Rev. War buried in Rush
Co., IN.
The following is an extract from an Indianapolis newspaper, June 8, 1936: DAR to unveil New Tombstone At Grave of Soldier – Gen. Arthur St. Clair Chapter of the DAR will unveil a new tombstone for Geo. Brown, Rev. War
Soldier, buried near Milroy, at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Col R. L. Moorehead will unveil the tombstone. Geo. Brown's son was Wm. J. Brown,
once Secretary of the State of IN, a Representative in Congress and Assistant Postmaster General. His grandsons were Admiral Geo. Brown of the USN and Austin Brown, a former Indianapolis newspaper man. His granddaughters, Miss Elisa G. Browning, was Indianapolis Librarian for 50
years. Garvin Brown, Vice-President of Indianapolis Stove Co; Austin Brown, purchasing agent for Eli Lilly and Co., and Henry Browning are great-great
grandsons of the Rev. War Soldier. Mrs. Fletcher Hodges is Chairman of the committee in charge of the program, assisted by Mrs. Anna Spaen and Mrs. J. R. Lynn.
Inscription on Rev. War Veteran stone on the home farm – Sgt. George Brown, Valencies Co. (Valentine's Co.?), 2nd Regt., Rev. War, died. 21 Sep. 1825.
The grave is located near Richland and also near Milroy.
