Prolific Songwriter. Born in Detroit in 1927, Harlan later moved to Los Angeles and became a laborer. In 1960, he decided to move to Nashville and try his hand at songwriting. In 1961, Harlan had accomplished a feat that has not since been duplicated. He had 15 songs on the country Top 40 simultaneously. In 1973, the man who had written over 4000 songs, with over 100 of them going Top 10, was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Twenty four years later, he was inducted into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. One of his most well known hits was "I Fall to Pieces," the song recorded by Patsy Cline not long before her death. (bio by: cayley)
