Waverly, Iowa - A graveside service was today in Gustavus Cemetery for Alice M Shipman, 81, of 210 15th St. NW. who died at 4 a.m. Wednesday in Bartel's Lutheran Home in Waverly.
She was born Dec. 1, 1912 in Plymouth, a daughter of the late Orian C. and Bertha V. Morgan Calaway. She had lived in Waverly since 1990 moving from Youngstown.
Mrs. Shipman taught at the elementary level in the Grand Valley and Youngstown school
system for many years. She earned a bachelors of arts degree in elementary education from Youngstown University in 1964.
Her husband, William A Shipman Sr. whom she married Nov 1, 1934; died in 1972.
Besides a son, William A. Jr. of Janesville, Iowa, she leaves a daughter, Mrs Robert (Elizabeth) Moore of Westerfield, NJ; brother Kenneth of St. Petersburg, Fla. four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Veda Colwell; and brother, Morgan Calaway, are
deceased.
Baumgardner Funeral Home in Kinsman handled the arrangments.
The family requests that material tributes be made to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation.
