M. Jarvis Whittle, 72, of Elizabethtown, died at 11:15 p.m. Thursday, January 21, 2010, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mr. Whittle was employed at Arvin Industries, retiring in September 1994 after 25 years of service.

He attended Seventh Street Church of God and found comfort in reading scriptures from his Bible and listening to southern gospel music. An outdoorsman, Mr. Whittle enjoyed nature, hiking on mountain trails, doing yard work and gardening. A car enthusiast, he liked NASCAR and open-wheel racing and any fast car.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Jerry Ballard officiating. Family and friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday. Entombment will be at Garland Brook Mausoleum.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Born in Norwood, Ohio, April 18, 1937, Mr. Whittle was the son of Millard and Zilphia Opal Wilson Whittle. He married Willadean Gross October 5, 1957.

Survivors include his wife; his mother of Columbus; aunts, Willie Casey and Orpha Shoultz, both of Columbus; and many cousins.

Mr. Whittle was preceded in death by his father.
