Mary Jane Henderson Elsberry Holland was the daughter of Robert Mitchell Henderson and Louisa Goode Henderson.

Mary Jane Henderson married Matthew M. "Bone" Elsberry on Sept. 11, 1859 in Paulding Co., GA. He was the son of Lindsey W. Elsberry, Sr. and Elizabeth Caldwell Elsberry and a 2nd Corpl.; Co. A.; 40th Georgia Inf.; CSA. He was born 1838 Paulding Co., GA and died Aug. 11, 1863 at Mobile Harbor, Alabama.

Their children were:

(1.) Louise "Lou" Elizabeth Elsberry
(July 20, 1860 Paulding Co., GA)(Sept 29, 1938 Paulding
Co., GA)she married T. Patrick Henry Winn on Dec. 21, 1881 in Paulding Co., GA. He was born Feb 01, 1859 Paulding Co., GA and died June 17, 1901. They both are buried in Friendship Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, along with some of thier children.

(2.) Walter Lindsey Elsberry

Jefferson Co., AL)he is buried in Ashley Cemetery in Arkadelphia, Cullman Co., AL.

Matthew M. Elsberry was captured at Vicksburg, Miss on July 04, 1863 and paroled there on July 16, 1863, delivered off Mobile Harbor, Alabama August 04, 1863 and then he died there August 11, 1863. He is buried at Old Shady Grove Cemetery in Paulding Co., GA.

Mary Jane Henderson Elsberry remarried to George Washington Holland, a widower, on Dec. 20, 1883. He was the son of Archibald Holland and his first wife, Elizabeth Hagin Holland.

Archibald Holland's second wife, Sarah "Sally" Elsberry Holland was the sister of the late Matthew M. Elsberry, and two of Matthew's other sibilings married children of Archibald Holland & Elizabeth Hagin Holland. The Elsberry and Holland familys were close and Mary Jane Elsberry and the late Lydia Camp Holland (first wife of George Washington Holland)had been long time friends.

The story was shared among many family members, that when Lydia Camp Holland was near to her passing, she told George that her wishes were for him to remarry and that if she could choose his next wife for him, it would be Mary Jane Henderson Elsberry.
