U.S. Congressman. Immigrating to the United States in 1914, settling in Brooklyn, New York, he attended Columbia University, (1926-27), graduated from St. Lawrence University Law School, in 1927, was admitted to the bar in 1928 and commenced the practice of law in New York City. During World War II, he served with the Office of Strategic Services in the Mediterranean Theater, (1943-45) and was special assistant to the Commissioner of Immigration, (1944-46). After the war, he was elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-second Congress, serving (1951-53), elected to the Eighty-fourth Congress and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving until (1955-63). Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was elected a judge in the State Supreme Court in New York, serving until his death from a heart attack at age 61.
