US Congressman. Born in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, he moved to Jefferson County, New York, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1813 and commenced to practice law in Adams, New York. In 1839, he was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-sixth and Twenty-seventh Congresses, serving until 1843. After his term, he was appointed Judge of Jefferson County, served for five years then transferred his judicial duties to Watertown, New York. There he also practiced law and engaged in banking until his death at age 77.
