Affectionately called "Mama", Lillian Pitawanakwat was a woman who loved traveling, meeting new people, and listening to country classics.

An Ojibway elder from Birch Island First Nation, she was best known for her medicine wheel teachings and was very knowledgeable in many aspects of Ojibway culture and traditions. A spiritual advisor, sweat lodge keeper and a counsellor on the cycle of life, Lillian possessed a joy for life and in meeting new people.

She passed away at the Manitoulin Health Centre.
