US Congressman. He graduated from Yale College in 1809, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1815 and commenced to practice law in Watertown, New York. He operated a gristmill, engaged in agricultural pursuits and was a member of the New York State Assembly, (1839-40). In 1849, he was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-first Congress, serving until 1851. After leaving Congress, he resumed the practice of law and returned to his business interests until his death at age 73.
