-- CHARLOTTE -- The funeral for Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Lewis Robbins was conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, at Reeder Memorial Baptist Church. Burial followed in Beatties Ford Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Robbins, 82, died Thursday, April 17, 2008, at her son's residence in Charlotte.

Born in Chester on June 13, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Sam and Eliza Lewis Clems. A member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in McConnells from an early age, Mrs. Robbins joined Reeder Memorial Baptist Church when she moved to Charlotte and served there as a member of the Charter, sang with the hymn choir and was active with the flower committee and the missionary. She attended the public schools of Chester County and was one of the first black sales persons for Belk Department Store Ready-To-Wear Outlets in Charlotte.

Survivors include her husband, Odell Robbins Sr. of Charlotte; a son, William Lee Lewis and his wife, Willie Mae, of Charlotte; two sisters, Roseitta Archie and her husband, Leon, of Charlotte and Eliza Hope Worthy of Chester; two brothers, Sam Washington Lewis and Calvin Major Lewis and his wife, Mary, all of Charlotte; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Fannie Mae Lewis and Henrietta Lewis McClurkin.

King's Funeral Home, 4000 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte, was in charge of arrangements.
