Reverand Lieutenant Whitfield, age 85, of Boyd, AL was born in Porterville, MS to the late Crowley and Anna Whitfield, Feb. 24, 1925. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Okinawa invasion in the U.S. Navy. He was united in holy matrimony to Julia Maxwell on August 3, 1946.

He later in life pursued his dream and furthered his education in theological studies. During his 52 years in the ministry, he pastored 5 churches and served as Moderator for many years at the Succarnoochee River Primitive Baptist Association.

He was a soldier on the battlefield for Christ until he was called home, Sept. 14, 2010 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.

Funeral services were Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 11 a.m. from Old Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church, Hwy 12, Boyd. Rev. Edmond Bell delivered the eulogy; Rev. Lieutenant Whitfield, pastor. Interment follows with Military Detail in Old Mt. Olive Cemetery. Pastor Whitfield lie in repose 90 minutes prior to funeral time. Visitation for family and friends was scheduled Sept. 30, 2010 from 3-6 p.m. at the Weatherly Chapel.

Those left to cherish memories are: a loving, devoted wife of 64 years, Julia Maxwell Whitfield; 8 children, Milton (Della) of Boyd, AL, Loretta (Joseph) Danner of Livingston, Lucretia (Cleophus) Childress and Lena, both of Columbus, GA, Alphonso and Mamie of Boyd, Marvin (Carolyn) Whitfield of Atlanta, GA, and Essie (Willie, deceased) Ponius of Detroit, Mich; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Guy Whitfield of Dayton, OH and Brown (Juanita) Whitfield of Bessemer; 2 sisters, Mellie Sledge and Madie Prude of Boyd. 2 brothers-in-law, Willie Maxwell and Cliff (Veodis) Maxwell.

Preceding him in death are 3 sisters and 3 brothers, Ella Williams, Mary Brown, Pearlie Whifield, William, Charlie and James whitfield. Elder Whitfield also leaves a host of special nieces, nephews and friends whom he loved dearly.

He believed in his favorite saying, "thus said the Lord" and lived his life by this. He saved and touched so many peoples lives. He will always be remembered for his dedication to tne Lord as well as his enthusiasm and determination toward saving lost souls.
