M. Theresa Tenorio, of Westland, widow of Fred Tenorio, Sr. died Friday 1/07/11 at home. Theresa was born on December 22, 1908 in Guadalajara, Mexico and emigrated to the United States as a child with her family. As a young woman with a beautiful contralto soprano voice, she lived and performed onstage in New York. She moved to Detroit where she met and married her husband, Fred, who owned major real estate in Detroit's barrio including Tenorio's Market and Mexican Village restaurant. During World War II they worked together at Willow Run airport, Theresa being a genuine "Rosie the Riveter" who was honored by the Yankee Museum this past October. She worked as a health aide in several medical facilities and later taught a Spanish class for years at the Westland Senior Center. She was predeceased by her siblings and three of her children, Al Alvarez, Theresa Segura and Sylvia Dupuis. She is survived by her children: Nancy DeLaFuente of Florida, Mary Segura and her husband Bill of Maryland, Sally Alvarez, Fred Tenorio and his wife Rena, Sandra Bruce and her husband Lynn, David Tenorio of Illinois, Sue Tenorio of Connecticut, Marie Tenorio of Oregon and Rick Tenorio and his wife Sherry and numerous great-great/great-grand/grandchildren.
