American Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He was issued the award on April 4, 1898 for his actions as a 1st lieutenant with Company C, 13th Illinois Infantry, US Army, on November 25, 1863, at the Battle of Missionary Ridge, Tennessee. He joined the US Army in April 1861 and in November 1862 he was given the rank of 2nd lieutenant, He was promoted to the rank of 1st lieutenant in November 1863 and discharged the following year. After the war, he worked for the Illinois Central Railroad, then moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where he was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad and operated an insurance agency. He later relocated to Skagway, Alaska, and worked as an auditor for the White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad and died there at the age of 63. His Medal of Honor citation reads: "While commanding his company, deployed as skirmishers, Josselyn came upon a large body of the enemy, taking a number of them prisoner. Lt. Josselyn himself shot their color bearer, seized the colors, and brought them back to his regiment."
