US Congressman. He was a successful bussinessman in timber, lumber and naval stores in southern Alabama. During World War I, he served as an Alabama official in shipbuilding companies. An unsuccessful candidate for renomination, he was convicted in July 1963, on charges of conspiracy and conflict-of-interest by using his congressional influence to gain dismissal of mail fraud charges against J.
