U.S. Congressman. Moving to California, in 1875, he became a successful farmer- businessman in San Luis Obispo County, in 1889. He was a member of the California State Assembly, (1892-93) and chairman of the People’s Party California State convention, in 1896. In 1897, he was elected as a Populist to the Fifty-fifth Congress, serving until 1899. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he remained active in politics as a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions, (1912-20).
