His Father James Henry Crail suffered from TB for years finally dying when James was 5 yrs. His Mother Ella Elizabeth (Sheridan) Crail suffering from TB herself, married her brother-in-law Wilson Crail 1906 to help her take care of the 8 children. Things were not good at the home. Most of the older children ran away or fled to marry as soon as possible. It was said that they didnt like the way their stepfather treated the Mother. Eventually James the youngest got hooked on drugs in Stockton and began cycle of being incarcarated then escaping, etc. a number of times. Finally they put him into San Quentin to keep him from escaping. There he too shrevelled away to T.B. The step-father & brother James also died of T.B. Other brothers were Wilson, Clarence, Henry, James, Tommy and sisters Gertrude and Annie.
