Samuel S. Gowen committed suicide about
4 o'clock Saturday afternoon.
He arrived at his residence, 8 Dorchester Street in South Boston, turned into the alleyway between his residence and the next, placed a pistol against his temple and fired
the fatal shot.
The report of the pistol brought a number of neighbors to the spot, but before he could be moved into the house, he was dead.
He was formerly a member of the Boston
Fire Department, and was currently employed by a steel warehouse.
Despondency caused by financial troubles
and temporary aberration is assigned to the cause of the rash deed.
His family will receive $1,000.00 from the insurance company of the Boston Fire Department.
