Oscar Henry Zessin, Third child of Eight, First Born son of Hermann and Ernestine (Rathel) Zessin.

Brother of Louise (Dittberner), Rosetta (Boysen), William, Herman, Lillie (Sattler), Bertha (Eucker) and Albert Zessin.

Husband of Bertha H. (Sattler) Zessin.

Father of Seven: Arthur, Vera (Scheer), Clara (Mann), Walter, Viola (Sparks), Frances (Tessum) and Harold Zessin.

Madison - Funeral services for Oscar H. Zessin 86, of Madison will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church of Green Garden, southwest of Madison. The Rev. Jack Thiesen will officiate. Organist Jill Freudenburg will accompany congregational singing at the service. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Keith Zessin of Clarinda, Iowa, Larry Zessin of Tekamah, Joe Gunson of Omaha, Jerry Jacobi of Norfolk and Lennie and Vernon Zessin, both of Lyons.
Oscar Henry Zessin, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Zessin, was born Jan. 16, 1888 on a farm southwest of Madison in Green Garden precinct. He died Monday, July 22, at a Norfolk Hospital.
He grew up in that area and spent his entire life in the Madison community. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's, where he was a lifelong member, serving as elder and a trustee.
On Feb. 8, 1911, he married Bertha Sattler there. They lived on the same farm southwest of Madison until moving to town in 1954.
He is servived by his widow, Bertha; sons Arthur of Madison, Walter of Oakland and Harold of Clarinda; four daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Vera) Scheer of Madison, Mrs. Richard (Clara) Mann of Phoenix, Mrs. Donald (Viola) Sparks of Omaha and Mrs. Lester (Frances) Tessum of Norfolk. There are 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He is also survived by three sisters, Lillie Sattler and Rose Boysen of Madison and Bertha Eucker of Norfolk, and one brother William, of Madison.
Mr. Zessin was preceded in death by one son, his parents, two grandchildren, two brothers and one sister.
