BARKER, BETTY ROSE ACUFF - of West Knoxville, daughter of the late Dr. Herbert and Lola Pruden Acuff, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Little Creek Sanitarium. She was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church, where she was married in 1946, and Circle 12. Betty was a graduate of National Park College, Bethesda, Maryland and The University of Tennessee where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She had served as President of the Association for the Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities and of the Knoxville Chapter, which maintains the Ramsey House Plantation. Betty was a member of the Dixie Highway Garden Club, Cherokee Country Club, and Ossoli Circle. She was an active member of the Board of Directors of the Ramsey House and maintained her membership in The Chicago Club until her death.

Betty was preceded in death in 1994 by husband, Lawrence Spears Barker, Jr. She is survived by special cousin, Jip Manring Pruden of Mililani, Hawaii, and a host of loyal friends.

A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, followed by a reception at Church Street United Methodist Church with The Reverend Andy Ferguson, The Reverend Cabel Trent officiating. Pallbearers, Harold Stone, George Legg, Charles Bell, Bev Jones, David Giles, and Joe Spence.

The friends will meet Tuesday at Highland Memorial Cemetery for a 2:00 p.m. interment service. Memorials may be made to: Ramsey House Endowment Fund, 2614 Thorn Grove Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee 37914 or Church Street United Methodist Church Altar Guild/Rejoice, 900 Henley Street, Knoxville, Tennessee 37902. Arrangements provided by Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
