Stuart J. Riley _ a _____ grade student in Louisville 5 School, died Wednesday night Apr. 17, 1957 at
7 o'clock in Massena Memorial Hospital.
He was struck by a car driven by James Albert Wright. 38. a justice of the peace in the town of Madrid, a few hours earlier on at 3:10 p.m.
It was the last day of school before the Easter vacation, and the teacher, Miss Agnes McGuinness, Waddington, offered the child a ride as she was coming to Massena. She stopped in front of the home of the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stuart S. Riley, Massena-Waddington Rd., on the right side of the road, and she told state police that she cautioned the child to be careful of traffic. Mr. Wright was also toward Massena and the child ran into his car. The mother of the child saw the accident happen.
Rushed to Massena Memorial Hospital, the child's condition remained critical. Dr. George Sandiford, physician, said death was due to a fractured skull, compound fracture of both legs and other injuries.
The child was born Sept. 24, 1948, in Hepburn Hospital, a son of Stuart S. and Evelyn LaBarge Riley.
Surviving are his parents; two sisters. Linda 14 and Bonnie Jean 12: the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank LaBarge, Potsdam, and Mrs. Anne Riley, Waddington, and several aunts and uncles.
The body was taken to the Phillips Memorial Home Wednesday night.
A prayer service will be conducted at the Phillips Memorial Home at 10 o'clock Saturday morning with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Later a mass of the Angels will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church.
