Sarah Jane Wolcott met and married Henry G. Root in 1859, in their home state of Ohio. There, their first child Luella was born. They moved to Minnesota, and their other two children, William and Carey, were born. Both daughters died under 10 years of age, both in Kansas. Carey is probably buried in Cloud County, where they lived per the 1875 Kansas Census.
Henry died in 1903 after having moved near Houston; their son William (who was in the oil and cattle business) moved to Nevada City, Missouri, and Sarah lived with him, helping to take care of his 3 children after his first wife died. She died there in 1913.
Her body was returned for burial next to her husband and daughter in Highland Cemetery.
