Verona Danyi Chernay, 84, of Daisytown, died at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2008, in Humbert Lane Health Care Centre, South Strabane Township.
She was born December 13, 1923, in Walkertown, a daughter of Stephen and Julia Settie Danyi.
Mrs. Chernay was a member of the former Assumption Roman Catholic church, Daisytown, where she was a longtime member of the Rosary Society.
She was a member of St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Richeyville.
Most important in her life was her family and extended family.
On October 9, 1943, she married John Chernay, who died April 13, 2006. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage.
Surviving are four daughters, Rose Chernay of Canonsburg, Barbara Kerch of Holbrook, Ruth Hockley of Carlisle and Deanna Martik of Coal Center; three sons, John A. Charnay of Langhorne, Dennis Chernay of Belle Vernon and Gary Chernay of Coal Center; two brothers, Alex Danyi of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Julia Zanella of Avonmore; 22 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are a brother and a sister who died in childhood. Also deceased are six other sisters, Priscilla Majoros, Anna Macalak, Mary Moore, Emma Shaffer, Helen Danyi and Elizabeth Vargo, and another brother, Steve Danyi.
