The son of Thomas & Mary (Harmon) Sheafe, he attended Eton College 1575-80. He was at King's College at Cambridge in 1580 where he earned a BA degree in 1585, an MA in 1588, a BD in 1595, and a Doctor of Divinity in 1606. Between 1583 and 1597, he was a fellow at King's College. He succeeded George Darrell as rector at Welford Berkshire, Eng. in Aug., 1597 and was installed Dean of Windsor on March 29, 1614-15.

Thomas Sheafe was made a Canon of Saint George's Chapel at Windsor on March 29, 1614.

He published "A Plea for Old Age" (London, 1639) and died soon after on Dec. 12, 1639 at his home in Wickham in the parish of Welford and was buried in St. George's Chapel in Windsor. His will was proved March 2, 1639/40. To son Grendall, lands in Hengerford and Inkpen, co. Berks, lease of house at Newbury and £15 to pay for a degree of BD; to son Thomas, the cottage at Beneden, co. Kent; to daughter Dorothy Whitfield, blankets, etc.; to wife, house at Windsor and Wickham; rest of estate to be equally divided between three sons: Edmund, Grindall, Edward, and four daughters: Whitfield, Westley, Norwood, and Hesilrigge. Sons, Thomas & Edmund executors.

He married (1) Maria Wilson, daughter of William and ISABEL Wilson about 1600 at Cranbrook, co. Kent, England. They were probably the parents of seven children. He married (2) Anne Woodward, daughter of Geroge Woodward, Esq. of Upton, Bucks & his second wife, Elizabeth Honywood, who was buried Sept. 20, 1614 at St. George Cathedral in Windsor. The baptism of their son, Edward, is recorded there.
