HERMAN WILLIAM SPENCER
Herman William Spencer, 98 of Elmer, Missouri, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2011 at his home.
Born July 8, 1912 near Atlanta, Missouri, the son of George Fredrick and Mary Eva (Todd) Spencer. On October 8, 1933 in Callao, Missouri he married Nellie Mae Bonifield who preceded him in death on June 21, 1997.
Also preceding in death were his parents and two brothers, Robert and Fredrick Spencer.
Surviving is one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Sylvia Spencer of Elmer, Missouri; two grandchildren, Roxy Shafer and husband Byron of Dalhart, Texas and Bruce Spencer and wife Julie of Elmer, Missouri; five great grandchildren, Memory Hall, Beau Spencer, Jimmie Nolte, Kimberly Nolte, and Ashley Gordon; and nine great-great grandchildren, Birkleigh Hall, Austin Spencer, Abigayle Hodges, Andrew Spencer, Hayze Spencer, Rhydier Gordon, Liberty Gordon, Tanner Nolte, and Peyton Umfleet.
Herman was a graduate of Atlanta High School. He moved to Elmer in 1936 and became a partner with Orville Burton as a shop mechanic. In 1965 his son Ronald joined him in the Massey-Ferguson dealership in Elmer and later in La Plata, Missouri, retiring in 1992. Herman also served as the Mayor of Elmer and took care of the water plant for several years. He was a member of Milam Chapel Methodist Church.
Graveside services were Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Milam Chapel Cemetery, north of Bevier, Missouri. Visitation was Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata, Missouri.
