Former Anchorage resident Albert John Killian, 80, died Aug. 10, 2005, at home in Honolulu. Memorial services were Aug. 17 at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu. The Rev. Henry Sabog officiated.
Mr. Killian was born July 9, 1925, in Clarksburg, W.Va., to Anna and Steve Killian and was raised in Clarksburg. He was a World War II veteran in the Army Air Corps as an aerial gunner in the Central Europe Air Combat -- Balkans. Mr. Killian continued serving with the National Guard of West Virginia, where he was a sergeant in Company C, 197th Tank Battalion. In 1949, he moved to Anchorage, where he retired with the Alaska Roofers Union after more than 20 years of service. He continued his career with the civil service, retiring after another 20 years. He and his wife, Betty, had been spending their retirement years in Hawaii since 1999. Mr. Killian was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe and Paul; and sisters, Anne Fisher, Helen Matz and Bernadette Kovach.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Betty; brother, Robert Killian of Daly City, Calif.; stepson, Dan Boyle of Kona, Hawaii; stepdaughter, Debera Pepper of Anchorage; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and their children.
