Dan Uhlis, age 60, of Springfield, Missouri passed away on Sunday February 20, 2011 in his sister's home in Jefferson City, Missouri.

Dan was born May 31, 1950 to Francis J. (Fran) Uhlis and Patricia J. (Pat) Uhlis in Springfield. He attended school at State Training School #1 (currently Greene Valley State School) and graduated in May of 1970. He began his employment at Springfield Workshop, Inc. and remained at the workshop for 38 years. He also attended the Technology and Learning Prevocational program at the Developmental Center of the Ozarks .

Dan participated in numerous activities through the Springfield/Greene County Parks and Recreation program throughout his life. His favorite activities included the bowling leagues and the T.E.A.M program. He also attended the adult session each summer at Camp Barnabas, the ARC Saturday Recreation program and the adult education program. He was also a member of the Special Young Adult religion class at Immaculate Conception Church. He loved to dance and was always the first on the floor and the last to leave. He especially loved listening to music and sang along to the Beatles, Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash whenever he got a chance. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals.

Survivors include his mother Pat Uhlis of Springfield; his sister, Debby Uhlis Parsons and her husband Dave of Jefferson City; his niece, Jadra Parsons of Independence, Missouri; step-nephews, Jaron and Dylan Parsons and their families of Wellington, Kansas; his uncle Jack Streeter and his four cousins; Pam Nelson, Rob, John and Jeff Streeter and their families, all from the state of California.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fran Uhlis, his aunt Bette Streeter and cousin Tom Streeter.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Richard Cunningham, Homemaker Health care and the Staff from St. Mary's Hospice for their care and support.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February, 24 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February, 25 in Immaculate Conception with burial following at Resurrection Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Dan Uhlis memorial fund, c/o Central Bank, Box 779, Jefferson City, MO, 65102. Contributions will be used to support Missouri initiatives for aging adults with disabilities.
