Martin A. Buker, 93, of Springfield, passed away Sunday, February 20, 2011 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

He was born on February 16, 1918 in Yatesville, IL, the son of the late Charles Edwin and Anna (Robinson) Buker. He married Virginia Copeland on August 12, 1941 and she survives.

Mr. Buker worked as a miller for Pillsbury in Springfield for 42 years, retiring in 1983. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947. He was a quiet, gentle, devoted family man. He enjoyed his family and raising roses and tomatoes. He always had a smile for everyone.

Besides his wife, Virginia, he is survived by a son Martin Jerry (wife Marie) Buker of Baltimore, MD, 2 daughters, Cindy Kay (husband Alan) Kremitzki of Springfield, and Linda (husband Mike) Schober of Glenarm, IL, 8 grandchildren, Kevin Buker, Brian Buker, Derek Buker, Carly Buker, Matthew (wife Nicole) Thomas, Kyle (wife Tiffany) Thomas, Amy (husband David) Wiley, and Nate Schober, and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Chester, Everett, Cecil, and Carroll Buker, and 3 sisters, Mildred Davison, Mabel Hickey, and Hazel Shewmake.

Services are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd, Springfield, where visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011 from 4 to 7 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011 at 11:30 am with Rev. Vaughn Beeman officiating.. Burial to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
