Joseph A. "Banana Man" Maisano, 87, of 733 W. Sixth St., Lewistown, died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 1999, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born May 16, 1911, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Concetta (Bofetta) Maisano. His wife, Cecelia Korotko, whom he married in 1935, survives. Also surviving are four children; a brother and sister; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one step-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by two infant daughters.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He sold bananas for Cosmo Mannino for 41 years and later owned and operated Joe's Produce for 33 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman CatholicChurch, Lewistown; the Lewistown Moose Lodge 143, where he was past governor; the American Legion Post 287, Milroy; the Lincoln Club, Philipsburg; the Knights of Columbus, Lewistown; and the Moose Legion 41 in Keystone. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Marickovic officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Tyrone.
Friends called from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, where there was a Scripture Reading at 8:45 p.m.
