James Erwin Pauk, 66, of Highland died on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at his home from complications of lymphoma. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Feb. 26 at the First Congregational Church in Highland. A memorial service will immediately follow visitation at the church. Burial will be at a later date in Gullick Cemetery, near Highland. Meridith Funeral Home in Highland is in charge of arrangements.

He was raised in Troy by his parents, Erwin and Jeanette (Johnson) Pauk. He graduated from Troy Schools, Triad High School and Western Illinois University. He was active in several civic and fraternal organizations, including Edwardsville Masonic Lodge 99 A.F. &A.M.

Mr. Pauk, who had owned Madison County Surveyors, in Edwardsville from 1976 until 1998, sold the business to his son, Jeffrey, in 1998. At the time of the sale, he was licensed in Illinois, Missouri, Kansas and Wisconsin. He served as president of the St. Louis Chapter of the Missouri Society of Professional Surveyors.

Other memberships included Rotary International (Paul Harris Fellow), Boy Scouts of America (James E. West Fellow), MENSA, Scottish Rite Bodies, York Rite Bodies and several other Masonic groups.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter, Rachel Anne Foe Pauk.

Surviving are his wife Elizabeth Drew Bauman Pauk; children, Jeffrey (Melinda) Pauk of Edwardsville, Diana Lyle of St. Charles, Mo., Drew (Renee) Russell and Jennifer (Anthony) Norton; and grandchildren, Thomas, Margaret, Eliza, and Daniel Pauk, and Maxton Norton.
