Hazel M. Rein, 89, of Peoria passed away Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at her daughter's home.

Hazel was born on Oct. 4, 1921, in Vandalia, a daughter of William Frederick and Grace Elizabeth (Merriman) Nave. She married Alvin J. Michel and together they owned and operated The Blue Danube and later The Sheridan Center Tap in Peoria. She later married Gerald W. Rein in November of 1960 at Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Peoria. He preceded her in death in 1980.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Carl and Ruben Nave; and sister, Ruby Pearl Turnbow.

Hazel is survived by her son, Gary A. (Donna) Michel of Sun Valley, Calif.; daughter, Joella A. Michel of Peoria; and brother, Paul (Violet) Nave of Assumption.

In 1986, she retired as a clerk in the men's department at Bergner's in downtown Peoria after 18 years of service.

Hazel was a member of Mount Calvary Evangelical Church in Peoria and a member of the Bergner's Retiree's Club.

Interment will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
