He soon found himself in the movie business, making his screen debut in "The Witness Chair" (1936) and went on to be a popular leading man. His more 50 credits include "Mannequin" (1938), "High Sierra" (1941), "Gung Ho!" (1943), "Phantom Lady" (1944), "The Daltons Ride Again" (1945), "Renegade Girl" (1946) and "Apache Chief" (1949).
