son of JAMES P. and IDA (McGEE) QUINN

James attended Worcester public schools, received his B.S. degree from State Teachers College, Fitchburg, Mass., and later received a master's degree in guidance and administration from Tufts University. He had served for 25 years in Medford, Mass., as a teacher and director of guidance and placement for the Medford public schools. Previously, he had been academic instructor for the Warren, Mass., school system.

A Wallingford resident for 37 years, Mr. Quinn joined the Wallingford public school system in 1957 as a guidance counselor of the Junior High School Division of Lyman Hall High School, and also served as principal of that school from 1959 until 1961. He was appointed the first principal of the James H. Moran Middle School in Wallingford in 1961, and held that position until his retirement in 1972.

He was a member of the American Association of School Administrators, the American Personnel and Guidance Association, the National Vocational Guidance Association, the Wallingford Education Association, the Connecticut Education Association, the National Education Association, the Guidance Directors Club of Boston, Mass., Tufts University Alumni Association, Fitchburg State Teachers College Alumni Association, Massachusetts Teachers Association, and the National Reserve Officers Association. He was a founder and parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection in Wallingford, and had been active in many local civic and fraternal associations, including the YMCA board of directors, the Family Service Association, chairman of the WEA Scholarship Committee, and head of the American Legion Oratorical Contest. A World War II U.S. Army Air Force veteran, Mr. Quinn had served as an educational officer in the Pilot Training Program, and was discharged with the rank of captain. He later served as colonel in the United States Air Force Reserves for several years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a brother, William B. Quinn of Longmeadow, Mass.; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces, and great-grandnephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Eleanore Quinn Gorman and Margaret Quinn, and a brother, Russell J. Quinn.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday at the Church of the Resurrection, 115 Pond Hill Rd., Wallingford, officiated by the Rev. Mark Bonsignore. Interment was held in St. John Cemetery, Worcester, Mass.

Arrangements were under the direction of The Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville, Connecticut.
