US Congressman. He was editor and publisher of the New Britain Herald, City Clerk of New Britain, and a member of the Connecticut State House of Representatives in 1886. In 1887, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fiftieth Congress, serving until 1889. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed his newspaper pursuits, was Labor Commissioner of Connecticut, Mayor of New Britain, and a delegate to the Connecticut State constitutional convention in 1902, shortly before his death at age 48.
