Francis was a lifetime member of the Church of the Resurrection and a 1950 graduate of Resurrection High School. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army with the 592nd Signal Air, Ground Liaison Co.
A loving husband and devoted father, Fran is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley M. (Fox) Gates; three sons; Jerry (Marjorie) Gates, Jon Gates, and David Gates; one daughter Diane Laban; five grandchildren: Christie and Michelle Gates, Eric, Nicholas, and Scott Laban as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Adams, Ruth Osmer and Grace Gates, and one brother, Edward Gates.
"Bud" was a dedicated employee of Bud Kouts Chevrolet Company for almost 40 years, retiring as Parts Manager in 1993. He then enjoyed working part-time as a "courtesy driver" for Bud Kouts Honda and the current Capital Honda until 2005.
Funeral Mass was held Monday, March 7, at Church of the Resurrection, Lansing with the Rev. William J. Koenigsknecht officiating. A Vigil Service was held.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Home for Children, Lansing, MI. or Resurrection School, Lansing in memory of Mr. Gates.
