Alfronzo "Peanuts" J. Cruz, 82, 2026 Clay St., died Monday morning at his home.
Born in Mexico, he moved to St. Joseph in 1919. He retired in 1963 after working for Swift & Co. here for many years.
Mr. Cruz was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife, Isabel Cruz of the home; five sons, Alfonzo J. Cruz Jr., Lebanon, Mo., Ralph Cruz, Colorado Springs, Colo., Floyd Cruz, Miami, Fla., Alex Cruz, Firestone, Colo., and Sylvester Cruz, St. Joseph, Mo.; six daughters, Mary Lou Cross, Troy Kan., Agnes Gerald and Patricia Westhoff, both of St. Joseph, Mo., Frances Hagg, Temple,Texas, Tina Donavan, Tempe, Ariz., and Jennie Hymer, Robeline, La.; a brother, Jesse Cruz, St. Joseph, Mo.; three sisters, Mrs. Mauricio Barbosa, Mrs. Socorro Rodriguez and Mrs. Frank Montemayor, all of St. Joseph, Mo.; 38 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
The body is at Rupp Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery. A rosary will be at 7:30 Wednesday eveing at the funeral home chapel.
