Musician. Born Kenneth Norville, he was one of jazz music's early vibraphonists, known as "Mr. Swing". He began his career in Chicago in the 1920s, where he helped establish the xylophone, marimba and the vibraphone as viable jazz instruments. With his Norvo Swing Orchestra, he performed with artist to include Benny Goodman, Woody Herman, Billie Holiday, Dinah Shore, Frank Sinatra, among others. His many recordings included "Dance of the Octopus", "Bughouse", "Knockin' on Wood", "Congo Blues", "Hole in the Wall" and "1-2-3-4 Jump". He recorded and toured until a stroke forced him into retirement in the 1980s.
