Entered service May 10, 1918, at Galesburg; to Jefferson Barracks; to Waco, TX; to Camp Merritt; sailed overseas August 17, 1918; into active service at front as soon as he arrived there; killed at a battle near Thiaucourt, France, October 21, 1918, by a high explosive shell; originally buried near Vieville-en-Have and Jaunly Road.

Worked as a locomotive fireman for the CB&Q Railroad before the war.
