He served in the war under his cousin William Whiteside from Tyron, North Carolina whom married his mothers sister Elizabeth (Stockton). He is also a cousin to Indianas GENERAL JOHN TIPTON whom platted the State Capital of Indianapolis, Logansport; Tipton, Indiana is named for General Tipton.
