"Sakie Shephard
Dies at Home"

"Mrs. Sakie Shephard, 65, 1247 N. Minnesota, a resident of Wichita the past 10 months, died at her home Monday night.

Born October 14, 1891, at Beanvil [sic] Parish, Louisiana, Mrs. Shephard moved here from Clarksville, Texas, where she was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Mexico Shephard, of the home; one son, Columbus Willis, of Clarksville; one sister, Mrs. Pearlie Wilborn, Clarksville, and two brothers, Trim Dixson, Ada, Oklahoma, and Allen Dixson, 721 E. 15th, Wichita.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Jackson Mortuary."

The following obituary was published in "The Paris News" January 23, 1957, page 6:

"Mrs. Sakie Shephard
Funeral services for Mrs. Sakie Shephard, 65, Negro resident of 1247 N. Minnesota St., Wichita, Kan., will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Clarksville, where she formerly lived. She died at home Monday night.
"Services in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, of which she had been a member, will be held by the Rev. C.D. Black, and Ferguson Funeral Home of Paris will make burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
"Born in Bienville Parish, Louisiana, October 14, 1891, she was the wife of Mexico Shephard, who survives. She leaves also a son by a former marriage, Columbus Willis, and a sister, Mrs. Pearlie Wilborn, both of Clarksville, and two brothers, Trim Dixson, Ada, Okla., and Allen Dixson, Wichita, Kan."
