Motion Picture Director. Born in Chicago, Illinois, for over 40 years he directed some of the most memorable films of the American cinema. He began his career in the 1940s directing short reels and completed his first feature film "The Verdict" in 1946. From 1948 to 1951, he worked at the RKO studios making crime and police dramas. He is best known for directing the Clint Eastwood box-office hits "Coogan's Bluff" (1968), "Two Mules for Sister Sara" (1970), "Play Misty for Me" (1971), "Dirty Harry" (1971) and "Escape from Alcatraz" (1979). Among his other credits are "Invasion of The Body Snatchers" (1956), "Madigan" (1968), "Charley Varrick" (1973), "The Shootist" (1976) and "Telefon" (1977). (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
