Born Minna Kahn in Vienna, Austria, she came to Manhattan in 1941. She relocated to Binghamton, New York in 1948, and moved to Grymes Hill in 1950. In 1954, Mrs. Altmann moved to St. George, living there until returning to Grymes Hill in 1978.
Mrs. Altmann worked for twenty years as a college professor in the German Department of Hunter College, Manhattan, retiring in the 1980s.
She earned her bachelor's degree from Wagner College, and received her master's degree in German literature from New York University and her doctorate in German literature from the City University of New York.
Mrs. Altmann was an active supporter of the Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem. She was also a lifetime member of the auxiliary of the Richmond County Medical Society.
She was a member of Temple Emanu-El, Port Richmond.
Mrs. Altmann enjoyed skating, skiing, tennis, literature, and classical music. She frequently attended performances at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
Surviving are her husband, Dr. Vladmir; her son, Dr. Thomas; and three grandchildren.
The funeral services will be held tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. in the Menorah Chapels, New Springville. Rabbi Gerald Sussman will officiate.
Burial will be in Baron Hirsch Cemetery, Graniteville.
