Benjamin A. Rinehart, one of our county's aged and respected citizens, died at Colonial Place, two miles east of Waynesburg, on Saturday morning, December seventh, at 3:45, of chronic cystitis. He had been in poor health for a year or more, at times improving, however, so that he was confined to his room for only two weeks prior to his death. He was born May 27, 1826, at the old Rinehart homestead, on Coallick, being a son of Arthur and Rebecca Rinehart, deceased. On November 7, 1851, he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Hoge, and for almost fifty years they resided on Frosty Run, near Fordyce post office, and subsequently occupied the commodious new home erected by Mr. Rinehart in Franklin township.
Deceased was a man known for his integrity and uprightness of character, having the good will and esteem of all of his friends and acquaintances. He possessed excellent business qualifications and conducted extensively and successfully farming and stock raising. As a useful citizen of his community, throughout his long life, his value can not be estimated neither can the loss which it sustains by his death be reckoned. In early manhood he united with the Methodist Protestant church, and his home, as had been the home of his father, was the frequent stopping place of the ministers of that charge. He was kind to the poor and gave liberally of his means to the support of every department of the church. His influence was always for the cause of right, without faltering or wavering. His family consisted of six children, the youngest of whom, Benjamin, died a few years ago. His wife and the following children survive: Asa Rinehart and Miss Belle Rinehart, who are at home, Mrs. H. C. Lucas, of Pittsburg, Mrs. L. M. Waddell, of Waynesburg, and Miss Lucy Rinehart, of Tampa, Florida.
