C. Lester Burgesser, 87, who formerly resided in Cavetown and was now a resident of Fahney Keedy Home, died Thursday afternoon at Washington County Hospital.
Born in Smithsburg, he was the son of John Edgar and Emma E. Burns Burgesser. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. Keller Burgesser.
He was a veteran of World War I. He had been employed by the Peoples Bank of Smithsburg for six years and was deputy County Treasurer for 36 years. He had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Smithsburg since 1904. He was a member of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics since 1906 and was a charter member of Valley Lodge No. 70, Knights of Pythias of Smithsburg.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Genevieve B. Herbst of Hagerstown; three sons, Charles K. Burgesser of Rochchester, N.Y., Harold L. Burgesser of Dunedin, Fla., and Robert E. Burgesser of Arlington, Va.; one brother, Lloyd Burgesser of Baltimore; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg. The Rev. Randy W. Barr will officiate.
Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 7 to 9. The family request the omission of flowers.
