Norman Colebank, 80, Litchville, died, along with his brother, John Colebank, on Friday, Aug., 18, 2000, from injuries sustained in a car accident near Oronoco, Minn.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug., 25, 2000, at First Lutheran Church, Litchville, with the Rev. Luther Peterson officiating. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery near Litchville.

Visitation will be from 1 - 8 p.m. Thursday with the family present to meet with friends from 5-8 p.m. at the Peterson-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home, Valley City, and one hour before services at the church on Friday.

A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Norman Willard Colebank was born Feb., 18, 1920, to John M. and Clara (Nasman) Colebank in Madelia, Minn. He grew up on a farm in Woodside Township, Polk County, near Mentor, Minn. He graduated from Mentor High School and attended one year at Bemidji State College.

Norman served in the Army in World War II. He was a member of the Signal Corps, assigned to duty on Atka Island, Alaska. He later served with the Army Air Force at Friend, Neb., and then with the B-29 Bomber Group in Puerto Rico.

He married Thyra Ann Blanche Gustafson on Feb. 5, 1944, in Grand Forks. Norman worked as an agent-telegrapher for the Northern Pacific and Burlington Northern railroads for 35 years and continued his sideline of repairing radios and televisions through this time. Norman and
Thyra lived in Friend, Neb, Jamestown and Berlin, N.D. before moving to Litchville in 1951.

Norman was a long-time member of the VFW, serving in several positions, including Post Commander. He was a member of the American Legion, AMVETS, Air Force Association, Eagles, Town Park Board and was a past Master of the Masonic Lodge. He was an active leader in the Litchville Boy Scout Troop and served as clerk and business manager for the Litchville School District for many years. He was a member of First Lutheran Chur;ch in Litchville where he was a trustee, deacon, treasurer and congregation president.

His hobbies were ham radio (call sign WQPVG), deer and pheasant hunting and playing pinochle.

Survivors are two sons, Michael (Sharla) of Lafayette, La., and Stephen (J) of Bryant, Ariz.; four daughters, Carolyn Sue (Craig) Hofstrand, DeLand, Fla.; Candace (Billy) Williams, Papillion, Neb.; Kimberly (Gary) Botner, West Fargo and Kathleen Hansen, New London, Conn.; daughter-in-law, Ann Colebank, Lawrence, Kans.; three sisters: Ann (Mel) Hagen, Anchorage; Martha Smith, DeRidder, La.; and Grace Anderson, Stephen, Minn.; 10 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; and four great-grandsons.

Funeral arrangements are by the Peterson-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home of Valley City.
