Daughter of Marcus Samuel, 1st Viscount Bearsted (1853-1927), founder of the Shell Transport and Trading Company, a precursor to Royal Dutch Shell, and his wife Fanny Elizabeth Benjamin. She married, firstly, Major Walter Henry Levy, son of Henry Levy and secondly Basil Ionides, son of Luke Ionides.
