Chief Warrant Officer Carl G. Orndoff, 87, of Freedom, died Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at the home of his son, Larry.
He was born August 9, 1921, in Waynesburg, a son of the late George W. Orndoff and Laura Gilbert Orndoff-Belford.
He was a 1939 graduate of Waynesburg High School.
Mr. Orndoff served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater, Co. I 71st Infantry, 44th Division and in the Pennsylvania National Guard, and retired August 9, 1981 with 29 ½ years of service.
He worked as a chemist for J&L - LTV Steel Corporation and retired on August 31, 1981 after 28 years of service.
Mr. Orndoff was a former member of the Greenwood United Methodist Church, Forest County, F&AM Lodge in Beaver, Scottish Rite, Valley of New Castle, life member of the VFW Post #4793 of Waynesburg, American Legion Post 66 of Clarion, the Retired Officers Association - Bucktail Chapter, and the National Rifle Association.
On February 4, 1941, he married Norma Faye Martin, who died August 20, 1989.
Surviving are two sons, Carl R. Orndoff and his wife Kathy of Gibsonia and Larry R. Orndoff of Freedom; three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, James Donald Orndoff and George Merle Orndoff, and a sister, Ruth Watson.
Friends will be received Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the BEHM FUNERAL HOMES, INC., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where services will be held on Monday, April 27, 2009 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Roger Ralston officiating.
Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg. Graveside Military Rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post #954, Jefferson. The F&AM Lodge #153 of Waynesburg will hold a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home.
